Book Review: Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball

As you may know I am part of Waterbrook Multunomah's Blogging for Books program.  I absolutely love doing this since I am an avid reader of Christian fiction. They have recently revamped their program so it has been a while since I have had a chance to review a book. Since it was almost Christmas I decided to review Donita K. Paul's Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball. I have never read one of Mrs. Paul's books before and I am always looking for new authors.

This was a charming and entertaining story of two people who have been around each other for years but this holiday season they are brought together by unexpected encounter at a peculiar bookstore. After their encounter at the bookstore they each find themselves in possession of a ticket to a very special Christmas Ball thanks to some very unconventional matchmaking booksellers. This spurs on an interesting series of events that will leave Cora Crowder and Simon Derrick with a holiday season they will never forget.
This was a very different book for me to read. Mrs. Paul intertwines faith and fantasy in a way I have never seen before and I quite enjoyed it. I would encourage you to give this book a try. It was very entertaining in it's quirky narrative. Even better throughout the narrative Cora is able to truly catch the Christmas spirit reminding us all of the reason we celebrate this time of year. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and cozy on up in your favorite reading chair and dive in to this delightful book.

Love and War....

I am so excited this is my first book review for Blogging for Books. This is a review of John and Stasi Eldredge's book Love and War: Finding the Marriage You've Dreamed Of. I must say this book was fantastic. I was honestly skeptical to read it at first but it exceeded anything I could have ever imagined. My husband and I have been married for 9 months and prior to our marriage as well as during our marriage have read numerous books on how to have a God honoring marriage and honestly most of them were all the same but this book is different. John and Stasi are so transparent about their marriage and the fact that marriage is wonderful but hard, very painful at times. They shared their joys and struggles and related to you in your own marriage through their open, straightforward dialogue. The don't offer the delusion that marriage is only a romantic fairy tale, instead they show that it is only one small part. You must fight to have a good marriage and it will be painful, joyous, and worth it. There are some many things that fight to destroy your marriage and we must be willing to go to battle for it. You can have the marriage God desires for you and your spouse by placing Him first. Be open about your brokeness and hurts in your marriage and allow God to heal that brokeness. As well as fighting against the temptations and things that seek to destroy your marriage. I highly recommend to this book to all who are married, especially to all newlyweds!
